Yavapai Trails Association Accomplishments

  • Participation and sponsorship in National Trails Day each year
  • Secured 8.5 miles of trail at Inscription Canyon Ranch
  • Awarded a Heritage Fund grant in the amount of $9,1595 to acquire and construct the Turley Trail (2.5 miles), making it possible for users to access Prescott National Forest from off Gurley Street and Route 89 in Prescott
  • Responsible for Team Leader Training workshop held in conjunction with the Forest Service
  • Provided leadership to such groups as: Youth Counts; Yavapai College Students; Yavapai ExceptionaL Industries;  Embry- Riddle University students;  and a 4-H group
  • Published packet to present to developers urging them to leave trail access and include trails in subdivisions
  • Mapped and promoted Prescott Circle Trail, which is being implemented by City of Prescott, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Yavapai County, and Prescott National Forest
  •  Drafted the Yavapai County Master Trail Plan which was adopted by the Board of Supervisors
  •  Received grant from Arizona Community Foundation to purchase heavy-duty trail tools for both our own use and lending to other organizations
  •  Adopted Forest Service Trails 347, 346, and 341; dedicated November, 2004
  •  Responsible for 5.5 miles of trail being included and developed in Prescott Basin; original plans did not show this additional trail and all trail work was the last item on their ten year agenda
  • Designed and constructed trail for sight impaired at Fain Park in Prescott Valley
  • Hosted the Barrie Mayes Memorial Trail dedication
  • Influenced City of Prescott to adopt a Trail Policy and subsequent Trail Plan
  • Had four members (of the 9) on the Yavapai County Trails Committee, which is implementing the Master Trails Plan
  • Received Resolutions of Support from City of Prescott; Towns of Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, Camp Verde, Cottonwood, and Clarkdale.
  • Instrumental in preserving trails and access in Forest Service Land Exchange off Copper Basin Road
  • Secured trail access from High Valley Ranch subdivision
  • Major player in the Rail/Trail on old Santa Fe RR right-of-way
  • Retained trail access to Prescott National Forest through Kingswood
  • Secured dedicated trail access to Prescott National Forest through Granite Mountain Homesites
  • Worked with Bureau of Land Management on Black Canyon Hiking and Equestrian trail
  • Maintained access to Salida Gulch
  • Worked with city/county on trail system in Pioneer Park
  • Assisted Wickenburg Trails in getting established
  • Worked on establishing program with Dead Horse Ranch State Park
  • Had a representative on the Prescott East Area Plan
  • Instrumental in ensuring continuity to the Isabella trail
  • Working with Arizona State Parks on Historic Trails
  • Involvement in every Arizona Trails Conference as well as National Trails Conference
  • Members formerly on the board of Arizona State Committee on Trails (ASCOT)
  • Arranged multi-use trail demonstrations for National Trails Day and Arizona Trails Conference
  • Members on the committee that put together the Historic Trails Conference held August 21, 1998 at Sharlot Hall Museum.
  • Held Trail Symposium October, 1994, to bring together staff from various agencies
  • Involved in Governor’s Initiative to Preserve Open Space – Glassford Hill
  • Partner in effort to pass Senate Bill #1055 relieving land owners of liability for recreational use
  • Constant watchdogs over Heritage Funds for recreational purposes
