What happens after you tap Send

You'll get an immediate confirmation on screen, so there is no waiting and no wondering whether it went through. Behind the scenes, your report lands on a live map that YTA volunteers and trail crews check, and an alert goes out right away.

If you're somewhere with no bars, you'll see "Saved!" instead. The report waits safely on your phone and sends itself the next time you have service. You don't have to do anything else.

Access Trail Watch

On an iPhone or iPad

  1. Open trailwatch.yavapai-trails.org in Safari. (This won't work in Chrome on an iPhone.)
  2. Tap the Share button, the square with an arrow pointing up, at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Scroll down the list and tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. Tap Add in the top right corner.
  5. The Trail Watch icon is now on your home screen. Tap it any time.

On an Android phone

  1. Open trailwatch.yavapai-trails.org in Chrome.
  2. Tap the ⋮ three-dot menu in the top right corner.
  3. Tap Add to Home screen (some phones say Install app).
  4. Tap Add or Install to confirm.
  5. The Trail Watch icon is now on your home screen. Tap it any time.

Common questions

Good to know

Do I have to give you my name or email?
No. Reports are anonymous. There's no sign-up, no password, and no contact information collected. All we receive is the location you pinned, the type of issue, and anything you chose to add, such as a note or a photo.
Why does it ask for my location?
Only to center the map on where you're standing, so you don't have to hunt for the right spot. Your phone will ask permission first, and you can say no. The map still works, you'll just scroll to the location yourself. Nothing is tracked in the background, and the app doesn't run when you're not using it.
What if there's no cell service out there?
Go ahead and file the report anyway. You'll see a "Saved!" message, and the report waits on your phone until you're back in coverage, then sends itself automatically. One thing to expect: with no signal the map background may be blank, but the pin and your GPS position still work correctly.
Someone probably already reported it. Should I bother?
Yes, please do. Issues that have already been reported show up as faint green dots on the map, and if you report the same kind of problem in the same place, the app just asks whether it's the same one. Tapping "Yes, confirm it" tells us more than one person is hitting the problem, which helps us decide what to fix first.
What kinds of issues should I report?

Trail conditions our crews can act on: overgrowth that needs brushing, downed trees blocking the path, washouts and erosion damage, and missing, damaged or confusing signs. There's an "Other" option for anything that doesn't fit.

Please don't use this for emergencies. If someone is hurt or in danger, call 911.

Does it work outside Yavapai County?
No. Trail Watch covers trails within Yavapai County, Arizona. If you drop a pin outside the county line, you'll get a friendly message letting you know it's outside the area we can help with.
How soon will the problem be fixed?
We can't promise a date. YTA is entirely volunteer-run and most trail work happens in partnership with the Prescott National Forest, the City of Prescott and other land managers, so a repair depends on crews, seasons and permissions. What we can promise is that your report is seen and logged, and that knowing about a problem is always the first step to fixing it.
Does it cost anything, or use much data?
It's completely free, and it's a lightweight page. Sending a report without a photo uses a trivial amount of data. Photos are larger, but you can always skip the photo if you're watching your data or your signal is weak.
